about

A setting of the Requiem Mass in 8 movements for soprano and alto soloists, SATB choir, organ, and orchestra.

As in the Fauré and Duruflé Requiems, the Dies Irae sequence is omitted and the In Paradisum is added, ending a C minor work in C major.

I initially began work on this requiem back in August of 2013, but set it aside as I worked on other music and it gradually faded into the background, where it stayed until my family made the decision to move my grandfather from rehab to hospice care. That day, I returned to work on the mass, determined to finally finish it.

The entire work is written in memory of my grandfather, who passed away on November 10th, 2014, and was formally dedicated to him on what would have been his 83th birthday, December 7th, 2014. The first completed movement - the Agnus Dei & Lux Aeterna - was finished just after midnight on November 10th, and a copy of the score was buried in the casket with him.
