One Small Step​.​.​. Op. 64

American astronaut Neil Armstrong died yesterday, August 25th, 2012. As I was reading a few news articles online about his death, the idea for this piece popped into my head.

This piece is written for mixed ensemble, with parts for a string quartet, trumpet, celesta, and synthesizer. It is written in a ternary form with an atmospheric intro evoking the feeling of outer space. The first and last sections are written as a funeral march and features the trumpet with the solo, and the middle section is a more upbeat march in the relative major and features the strings.
