Allegro Spiritoso, Op. 90 [Live]

from Senior Recital by David Lee Grossman

/

about

A standard in the repertoire of any pianist are the keyboard works from the baroque period. Whether used in a performance to show technical skill or in a lesson to teach proper technique, these contrapuntal pieces, predominantly inventions and fugues, have many uses.

This contrapuntal piece for piano was written around the same time that I started working on the Bach C major invention in my piano lessons. While it is more classical in its approach than Bach inventions, the characteristic of an invention can still be heard.

At the beginning of June, Westminster Conservatory will present a concert for student composers, and I will have two of my compositions played, one by myself and one by a faculty ensemble. This will be one of the two performed, and the one that I will be playing.
