Mvt. 2 - The Olympic Arena

from Olympic Suite, Op. 109 by David Lee Grossman

/

about

A slow march for wind band. It is unusual in the distinct absence of the breakstrain, a section required in the military march form used by Sousa, instead featuring a trio twice as long that is then repeated by the full band. This variant of the march, more akin to the Regimental form than Sousa's military form, is more common in the marches of Karl King and Henry Fillmore. Halfway through the second trio, the band modulates up a whole step and adds a low brass counter-melody and piccolo obbligato alla Sousa.

Finished 2/18/2014
Recorded with Finale 2012 and Garritan instruments (COMB 2) and mixed with Audacity.
