Rondo in C Minor "Beethoven's Dream", Op. 80 [Live]

from Senior Recital by David Lee Grossman

/

about

An energetic, five-part rondo for solo piano, this was one of the first pieces I wrote that I set out wanting to write in a particular style, either inspired by the sound of a composer or a specific form.

One of my favorite classical composers has always been Beethoven, and he was one of the composers that I grew up listening to as a child. For a long time, I had wanted to write a piece in his style, both in homage to him as well as to see how well I actually knew his style. Some of my favorites of Beethoven’s piano music are his Sonata Pathétique (Op. 13, No. 8) and his Piano Concerto No. 3 (Op. 37), and hints of both of those pieces appear in this composition, as well as a hint at one of Beethoven’s most famous motifs.
