Scottish Air, from Three Duets for Two Violins, Op. 69 Mvt. 2

from Senior Recital by David Lee Grossman

/

about

This selection, a gentle air for two violins with a Scottish feel, is the second movement of a set of three duets.

I started taking private composition lessons last year, and this was one of my first assignments. Since I had had plenty of experience writing for larger ensembles at that point but not as much for smaller groups, most of my assignments from last year focused on small ensembles. I had initially started with just one movement, but was so inspired by the first piece that I wrote a set of three duets.

This piece, and the other two movements from the set were originally performed at the Young Artist Program’s Chamber concert in May 2013.
