Weep, O Mine Eyes (Setting 1)

from Choral by David Lee Grossman

/

about

The first of two madrigals setting the same text, from a Renaissance motet of the same name by John Bennet (d. 1614). Both madrigals are somewhat inspired by the motets of Bruckner and the madrigals of the Renaissance. This one, for SATB divisi choir, is a fairly straight-forward setting of the text.

Finished 12/8/2015. Audio created with Finale 2012 and Garritan instruments and mixed with Audacity.

lyrics

Weep, O mine eyes and cease not,
Alas, these your springtides methinks increase not.
O when begin you to swell
so high that I may drown me in you.
